Set in a prominent location on the outskirts of a West Cavan village, the 1970’s house was initially earmarked for demolition. Following a rethink, we were engaged to investigate the potential of incorporating the original house into a remodeling and extension project to cater the couple and their young family. The original house underwent a deep retrofit program, the finished product now complying with current standards of insulation, airtightness and energy efficiency. The distinctive timber pergola is designed to diffuse sunlight penetrating deep into the new open planned kitchen/dining/living area via the oversized sliding doors and also provides an interesting shadow pattern on sunny days. The subtle landscaping scheme by Brackley Landscaping bring added sophistication to the residence as a whole.
